House and Home 20 questions games - No prep ESL speaking activities
4 versions of the game are included for a total of 208 vocabulary words.
Have students work in pairs, small groups of 2-4, or project the version of the game that you want to use and do a whole class activity.
Each version includes 52 house and home words. This resource includes a total of 208 words. Many of the words will likely be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice speaking and listening, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words.
One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word.
Are you an object?
Are you a room?
Are you in the kitchen?
Are you in the bedroom?
Are you in the bathroom?
…etc…
The student who has chosen the secret word can answer using the following responses: YES - NO - SOMETIMES - RARELY - USUALLY - MAYBE - IT DEPENDS - PROBABLY
Alternative game play:
To change up the game and to make it more challenging as well as practicing other skills, have the student who chooses the secret word describe it to others in the group. Instead of asking questions about the secret word, other students listen to the description and guess it.

Fêtes, jours fériés, anniversaires - 30 French speaking prompt question cards
Want your French students to use their fêtes, jours fériés and anniversaires vocabulary in meaningful context? This low prep activity is a fun way to encourage your students to speak more and engage in conversation. It is a perfect resource to use in immersion, core or homeschool curriculums.
You can use these cards after teaching specific vocabulary and grammar for French holidays, observances and birthdays or as a fun interactive activity on a day when you want to just focus on speaking and reviewing vocabulary in a different way. Read on to find out the many ways I like to use these cards including the popular SCOOT game. Instructions and recording sheet are included.
All cards are visually stimulating and feature a circle to punch out in the upper left corner so that you can print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and hook the cards together with a ring. Using these cards this way makes it easy to pull them out year after year to use as NO PREP speaking activities.
Included:
30 speaking prompt cards - color (4 per page to print and cut out)
30 speaking prompt cards - grayscale
PDF version to project and avoid printing (1 card per page to project)
9 different ways to use these cards
Scoot game instructions
Scoot recording sheet
There are many ways you can use this set of task cards:
➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions.
➤ Project the pdf file in class to work in group or with your whole class and avoid printing.
➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box.
➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements.
➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer.
➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards.
➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question. All cards are numbered so it is simple to stay organized. Full instructions are included.
➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move.
➤ Use the cards as an icebreaker activity at the beginning of the school year or right after school holidays.
➤ Great resource for tutoring sessions and vocabulary building.

This resource is especially useful for your chapter on the environment or for Earth Day. Next to each word there is space for students to either write the definition in English or to write the translation in their native language.
I like to print the list of words on one side of a page and the questions on the other side so that students can easily refer to the new vocabulary during their conversations. If you make a two sided copy everything will fit on one page.

❖ La nourriture - Food - Discussions ciblées - French themed conversation questions ❖
Part of our series of “discussions ciblées”. List of 35 vocabulary words related to food with 20 discussion questions. The questions are suitable for upper level and AP French or for middle and high school French immersion. This resource is especially useful for your chapter on food and restaurants.
I like to print the list of words on one side of a page and the questions on the other side so that students can easily refer to the new vocabulary during their conversations. If you make a two sided copy everything will fit on one page. A page with French vocabulary and no English translation for immersion programs is included.
Also included is a set of speaking cards for students to use prior to using the discussion cards so that they can become familiar with the theme and many new words. The cards just need to be printed and cut out so that your students can use them in pairs or small groups. Each card says, “Décris le mot suivant en français et ton partenaire le devinera.” The vocabulary word is written both in French and English since many of the words will be new. This exposure to the vocabulary will make the discussion that follows flow easier. Students will still have easy access to the list of words on the other side of the photocopied questions.
Don’t want to print? That’s ok! A PDF with just one card per page is included for easy projecting or for tablets.
Included:
